This is a repeat of a message I sent earlier to Alain and Jeff Porter
on Bestman package status. Alain suggested that I send it also to vdt-
support to follow up on ownership issues described below.

I installed the Bestman package from the current VDT 1.10.1 cache and
tested it. It seems that some of the updates from the by-hand testing
I did with Alex and Junmin during my recent visit to LBNL did not make
it in somehow., so proxy mapping was only partly working. (It works
for voms AC proxies as shipped, but errors out when presented with a
simple grid proxy, even if a mapping for grid proxies exists in GUMS.)

Alex and Junmin are aware of the problem and are tracking it down to
fix it. It is possible to fix the version as distributed by replacing
one jar file. They are engaged in a lot of code merging between the
bestman-xrootd and core bestman projects and will try to get an
updated release to the VDT team ASAP.

I also noticed that all files in the $VDT_LOCATIN/bestman area appear
to have their original ownerships (8850 123) rather than those of the
account under which they are installed. Is this normal, and if not,
should it be fixed?

A copy of a vdt-profile.txt report is attached, in case it is
helpful. Note that I installed more packages than just the Bestman
one, in the process of diagnosing other problems I was having that
were not directly related to the above ownership issues.

Thanks,
Alan

Thanks Alan.
For the new bestman lib file to fix gums will probably be ready around wed. of next week. Please hold bestman release 2.2.0.11 in the new vdt release until its fixed. Thanks.

Ok, we will hold off on releasing 2.2.0.11 until I hear back from you Alex.

Alan, I don't see that same file ownership problem on our test installs.
I looked through the debug log you sent me, but I don't see any error
messages that indicate a problem with changing the ownership of those
files. I can see that the top level directory is properly owned by
root, so everything else underneath that directory is owned by 8850? Is
this happening for any other packages?

Ok Alex, I've put 2.2.0.11.a into the VDT. Our current plan is to
release tomorrow if nightly tests look good.
