Subject: Gratia probes ready for VDT packaging.

From: Chris Green <greenc@fnal.gov>
Hi,

The Gratia probes v0.38a-1 are available at https://twiki.grid.iu.edu/bin/view/Accounting/ProbeInstallation.

We'd be grateful if you could package the probes and make them available for installation from a test repository.

I don't believe you are currently packaging the dCache probes; and the urCreator binary has not changed since its inception so a rebuild is not necessary unless a new OS is required.

Release notes:
  1. Condor probe handles correctly now certain types of job where ExitSignal is set and must be propagated.
  2. Condor probe handles correctly zero CompletionDate attribute.
  3. Some Condor probe warnings downgraded.
  4. Condor probe now identifies and flags GridMonitor jobs.
  5. Condor probe batches records to avoid inordinately large python scripts.
  6. All probes give more helpful output in case of malformed ProbeConfig files.
  7. PBS and LSF probes now associate correctly VO information with the job.
  8. glexec probe frequency backed-off to 1h to ease load from handshakes.
  9. Missing MeterName dealt with by defaulting to "auto:`hostname -f`"
Please let me know if there are any problems, or if you have questions.

Thanks,
Chris.

Thanks for the new probes!

Can they be released independently of the services, or must the two be
released simultaneously?

Also, you asked for them in a test repository: you don't think they are
ready for release yet? Or what testing are you thinking of in particular?

Thanks!

They may be released independently.
Also, you asked for them in a test repository: you don't think they are
ready for release yet? Or what testing are you thinking of in particular?

We don't have access to PBS/LSF-based test GKs here, but Alan Sill has offered to test for us on TESTWULF; and I think I can get Preston to run one at Purdue. In the past we've always been able to test those probes because they were only log scrapers and we'd run them on a sample log without having to install a PBS master and GK. Now though, we combine information from the batch logs with that from GRAM and we need to be able to test that association (that's one thing that didn't work but was supposed to in the OSG 1.0 release).

Thanks,
Chris.
Thanks!

Hi Chris,
The test cache is ready. You can get the probes by running

pacman -get http://vdt.cs.wisc.edu/test-cache/gratia:PACKAGE

Where PACKAGE = Gratia-Condor-Probe, etc.

I've tested that installing the Gratia-Condor-Probe works, but have done
no testing beyond that. Let me know if you have any questions or problems.

Thanks,
scot

Thanks Scot. If one specifies a probe, does common get updated
automatically or does that have to be done separately?

If you're referring to "pacman -update"...
All the probe pacman files include Gratia-Common-Probe. So updating
any of the job manager probes will automatically update the common
probe.

Scot,

I am trying to do a pacman update on this package and it is
unsuccessful. What am I doing wrong.

Does this require a later version of pacman?

This was an update done on a fresh install. Output from vdt-version
prior to the update is at the back.

Hi John,
There are two problems here.

First, when you do an update, you have to just specify the package. So
pacman -update Gratia-Condor-Probe
instead of
pacman -update http://vdt.cs.wisc.edu/test-cache/gratia:Gratia-Condor-Probe

Second, you probably don't have an install that you can update. I put
this work into a test cache
(http://vdt.cs.wisc.edu/test-cache/gratia), but I suspect you
installed from the VDT's normal cache
(http://vdt.cs.wisc.edu/vdt_1101_cache). With pacman, you cannot do
an installation from multiple caches or else there will be problems
related to the VDT infrastructure. You will have to do a fresh
install, i.e.

pacman -get http://vdt.cs.wisc.edu/test-cache/gratia:Gratia-Condor-Probe

Will you be able to test in a fresh install like this? Let me know if
you need help with something different...

I have updated the Gratia Probes to version 1.00-1 in this test cache.
I am working on upadting the Service and Reporting packages still.

Hi Scot,

The (hopefully) final version of the probes, 1.00.3a-1 is available at
https://twiki.grid.iu.edu/bin/view/Accounting/ProbeInstallation

In addition, please find attached a new configure_gratia which will not
overwrite MeterName, SOAPHost, SSLHost or SSLRegistrationHost if the
ProbeConfig file has already been processed by configure_gratia once
*unless* a new option --force-probe-config is used (this should *not* be
used by configure-osg). In the case of the condor probe, the option
SuppressGridLocalRecords is set to 1 which will avoid double-counting
when the gatekeeper is also the submission host. Also, a real bug has
been fixed in the setting of the MeterName in the case of the glexec
probe (=> was used instead of =).

Please let me know if this works for you.

Thanks,
Chris.

Please find at the usual place, the FINAL version of the 1.00 probes:

https://twiki.grid.iu.edu/bin/view/Accounting/ProbeInstallation

A new version of configure_gratia with changes relevant only to the
services is on its way.

Thanks,
Chris.

The latest probes (1.00.4-1) are in place, and John has tested them.

We plan to release them in the next lettered update to the VDT, which
should happen this week. If the there is a problem with this, please
let us know.

Thanks for all the testing.
